Our body needs a large number of nutrients different to survive day to day and it is important that we give in the fair measures. Many times overwhelm us with any nutrient can cause us problems, which happens with potassium. So today we want to tell you what the main problems of having a potassium too high and what to do when this happens, a lot of attention!
First let’s understand what is responsible potassium, it is one of the minerals that are highest in our body, this helps us to maintain normal pressure both inside and outside of cells involved in the functioning of the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. It also deals with the effects of reducing sodium has on our body, helps in muscle contraction and regulates water balance, among others.
Among the consequences of having too high stands hyperkalemia , is a mineral imbalance that is caused when our kidneys can not remove excess. Having high potassium levels can affect our heart, since an excess of potassium increases the risk of hypertension and can also cause cardiac arrhythmias. It is for this reason that we should not go to either extreme, if this topic interests you, we encourage you to read the next post where I teach high potassium loss.
